There's no fence to peep through, just a ringside seat for residents of Chateau Girardeau who want to watch the progress of the new Centerre Bank building going up at Mount Auburn and Independence. Friends of Old St. Vincent's Church Board of Directors were present for the dedication of the plaque that placed the church on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The plaque was just installed. From left are Walter Ford, Anthony Dohogne, B.W. Harrison, Edwin Ragland, Ron Kirby, Norman Robert and Paul Miles. (Larry Thompson ~ Southeast Missourian archive)

Members of Cape Girardeau's Vision 2000 Community Relations committee met Saturday for an annual retreat to discuss the city's strategic plan. The Vision 2000 plan began in 1987, with community members working toward needed city improvements. The Alvarado was a service station and restaurant built in 1929 at the intersection of West Broadway and Highway 61 in Cape Girardeau. The photo was taken in 1934 by G.D.
