Published Nov. 22, 1989. Kathy Matlock's kindergarten students at McClure Elementary School performed a Thanksgiving skit about the Pilgrims and the Indians for students and parents at the school Tuesday. Published Nov. 8, 1982. The Memorial Fountain in Common Pleas Courthouse Park in Cape Girardeau was formally re-dedicated Sunday afternoon. Special recognition at the ceremony went to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department. Firefighters in their off-duty hours volunteered their expertise to repair and restore the 71-year-old community landmark. Here, Assistant Fire Chief Eugene Hindman accepts a color portrait of the fountain from Associate Circuit Judge Marybelle Mueller, speaker at the ceremony. The portrait was presented in appreciation for the work of the firemen, and will be displayed at the Fire Department Headquarters. At the right are Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Published Dec. 26, 1992. Cape Girardeau Postmaster Mike Keefe looks over some of the tons of bulk advertising mail and federal and state income-tax packets the post office will begin delivering between now and the first of the year. Although the volume of post-Christmas bulk mail is less than that of Christmas mail, Keefe says the sheer weight and size of the bulk mail makes it more difficult and time-consuming to sort and deliver. Published June 16, 1982. Some of the music that will be in the air during Riverfest activities will be coming from these two musicians, Dan Wiethop, left, on the autoharp, and Wayne ("Bear") Long on the string bass. The pair, billed as "The Memorial String Band," has made guest appearances at many bluegrass festivals, including the largest in the state.
