Published Aug. 31, 1992. Deckhands on the Mississippi IV boat of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers went ashore at the Cape Girardeau riverfront prior to leaving for St. Louis during the corpsХ annual low-water inspection tour of the Mississippi River. Published Aug. 17, 1992. Dutchess, a Bassett hound owned by Richard Bangert, went through the rinse cycle at a dog wash that raised about $200 for the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. From left were Sandy Rankin, Betsy Richey and Jhan Thomas. About 300 volunteers washed 28 dogs with a flea and tick shampoo. The dogs assisted with the dry cycle. Published May 23, 1982. The Suzuki Players, a group of young violinists, captivated guests at a wine and cheese party held Saturday at the historic Thilenius home in Cape Girardeau and benefitting the Cape River Heritage Museum. The children, members of the SEMO State University String Project, are, standing clockwise from left, Stephanie McHaney, Tarina Kang, Matthew Shivelbine and Bill McHaney. Seated are Bethany Holt and Grant Bullinger. Funds raised at the event will be used to renovate the museum, located in the old fire station headquarters at 538 Independence.
