Crowds thronged along the riverfront here for the Cape Girardeau Riverfest Friday and Saturday, enjoying food, crafts, music and a variety of other entertainment programs. Riverfest co-chairman Pete Poe said an estimated 15,000 persons attended the festival Friday. Last year's festival drew 22,000 persons over the two-day run, Poe noted. Ray J. Egner has watched with interest his 3-year-old banana tree that produced a stalk of bananas this year. The tree which originated in Florida has been cut back, potted and taken inside when the temperature goes below 50 degrees. Egner said the tree is now too big to winter in the family room and will have to be farmed out. (Fred Lynch ~ Southeast Missourian archive)
