Published June 21, 1981. Crowds thronged along the riverfront here for the Cape Girardeau Riverfest Friday and Saturday, enjoying food, crafts, music and a variety of other entertainment programs. Riverfest co-chairman Pete Poe said an estimated 15,000 persons attended the festival Friday. Last year's festival drew 22,000 persons over the two-day run, Poe noted. Published Aug. 20, 1982. Ray J. Egner has watched with interest his 3-year-old banana tree that produced a stalk of bananas this year. The tree which originated in Florida has been cut back, potted and taken inside when the temperature goes below 50 degrees.
