Calvin Chapman, sophomore counselor at Central High School for five years, was pictured studying a huge farewell card presented to him by students during an awards ceremony. Mrs. Dorothy Macke of Jackson received the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee "Friend of Agriculture Award" from Earl James, chairman of the Agriculture Committee. The award was presented at the Area Appreciation Night dinner held Nov. 2, 1978, in the Arena Building. Mrs. Macke was active in 4-H and the Extension Service and helped establish the egg outlet and transportation of dairy products to the St. Louis market. (Southeast Missourian archive)
