  • Free intermediate Internet training will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Hirsch Community Room of the public library. No charge or registration required. Call or sign up at the reference desk.
  • Southeast Missouri Hospital bookmarks and a "heart healthy" display are at the library during February. As a literary partner, the hospital supports the library through financial support and services. Any business interested in a partnership may contact director Betty Martin.
  • Great Decisions 2007, held from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 15, will begin its series of programs with "George Bush: The Concluding Prospects and Challenges." This foreign affairs information and discussion series encourages residents to voice their opinions and concerns about current world issues. Sponsored by the library and the Center for Regional History, the series is free and open to the public.
  • Library closed for President's Day, Feb. 19.
  • At 7 p.m. Feb. 27, there will be a special session of the Book Discussion Group. The group will meet when the library takes part in United We Read 2007. This year's book is "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. The discussion will be led by a guest speaker,. It is free and open to the public.
  • A display in the library's Reading Room for the month of February is "Building a Community: African-Americans in Cape Girardeau, Missouri," presented by the Cape River Heritage Museum and the Department of History at Southeast Missouri State University.
