National Weather Service meteorologists said Cape Girardeau reached 93 degrees Sunday.
According to the Weather Underground website, that was a record high temperature for May 6. The old record of 87 was set in 1986, the website said.
NWS meteorologists forecast a 70 percent chance of rain today. The high temperature today is expected to reach into the mid-80s, but highs Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to reach only the mid-70s.
