Nearly two dozen residents at Monday's city council meeting turned a discussion on the traffic light at Independence and Pacific streets into a vote.
Despite a series of city studies showing steadily dwindling traffic at that spot since 1973, the city council agreed unanimously to keep the light in place.
In other city council action:
- Lot 24, block 2, Park Place subdivision, at 1330 Broadway, was rezoned from R-2 to C-1.
- Trifecta Development LC and Family Video Inc. was granted a special-use permit to construct, maintain and operate a building and parking lot for commercial and retail uses at 506 N. West End Blvd.
- BAC Enterprises LLC was grated a special-use permit to construct, maintain and operate a residence and a duplex on an existing vacant lot at 1000 N. Frederick St.
- Brenda Ware Lewis was granted permission to maintain and operate a day care at 805 S. Sprigg St.
- Stop signs on Woodland Hills Drive at its intersection with Greenbrier Drive were approved.
- A permanent sewer easement, from Whispering Oaks of Cape Girardeau LC for maintenance of sewer "E" in Whispering Oaks subdivision, was approved.
New ordinances, first readings
- Operating and capital expenditures from the convention and tourism fund for the fiscal year ending June 30 were approved.
- The record plat of Olive Garden Condominiums was approved.
- The record plat of Ramsey Plantation was approved.
- The record plat of Sexton Subdivision was approved.
