ADVANCE - The Advance R-4 School District will be closed today because of a flu outbreak.

About 100 of the district's 500 kindergarten through 12th grade students, or 22 to 23 percent of the student body, did not attend school Thursday, District Superintendent Terry Pearcy said.

Pearcy said the district would try to use the three days of today, Saturday and Sunday to "knock as much out of" the flu as it could.

Other districts closing today because of the flu are Piedmont and Greenville.
