TBILISI, Georgia -- A British banking expert kidnapped nearly five months ago was freed by Georgian forces in a special operation on Wednesday.

Peter Shaw was feeling well and was being transported to Tbilisi, the Georgian capital, Security Minister Valery Khaburdzania said on Rustavi-2 television.

But one of the kidnappers was shot and killed during the operation in the remote Pankisi Gorge, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry said.
