Sam Lowes, a senior at Jackson High School, was among 100 students selected to participate in the University of Missouri School of Medicine's High School Mini Medical School. The program, now in its 15th year, is designed to give high school seniors who are interested in medical careers a one-week preview of medical school. Lowes will participate in a medical-school style curriculum, which includes problem-based learning, a method of teaching that combines independent learning in small groups with patient care cases. Students also will participate in sessions with clinical and research specialists; gain hands-on experience in anatomy, microbiology and clinical skills; interact with medical school student, faculty and staff; and attend seminars on college and medical school life. Students will attend one of two summer sessions from June 16 to 20, or from June 23 to 27.

Students represent at program, conference

Rachel Mudd, Kristen Gruenwald and MacKenzie Brewer will represent Citizens Electric Corporation during all-expenses-paid trips to Jefferson City, Mo., and Washington, D.C., this summer. Mudd, the daughter of Chris and Maria Mudd, and is a senior at St. Vincent de Paul High School in Perryville, Mo. She will join Brewer, a junior at Ste. Genevieve High School, in Washington, D.C. to participate in the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour program from June 14 to 20. Brewer is the son of Steve and Valerie Brewer. Gruenwald, daughter of Kevin and Meredith Gruenwald, is a junior at Saxony-Lutheran High School in Jackson and will attend the statewide Cooperative Youth Conference Leadership Experience in Jefferson City from July 17 to 19.
