Honors, achievements

The following students were honored at the 29th annual Southeast Missouri Writing Achievement Award program. During the event, 27 students from Southeast Missouri and St. Louis in fourth through 12th grade received awards.

* Matthew Woodfin, of Leopold School District, received first place and Rachel Juhlin, of Nell Holcomb School District, received honorable mention in poetry, grades 4 to 6.

* Klara Beel and Jared Landewee, both of Leopold Schools, received first place and honorable mention respectively in essays, grades 4 to 6.

* Brooke Hogard, of Perry County Middle School, received first place in fiction, grades 4 to 6.

* Rachel Bierschwal, of Nell Holcomb, received first place, Kylie Christensen, of Jackson Junior High School, and Joseph Radford, of Woodland School District, received honorable mention in poetry, grades 7 to 9.

* Sarah Stroup, of Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School, and Eva Trunzo of Jackson Junior High School, received honorable mention in essays, grades 7 to 9.

* Camille Otto, of Ste. Genevieve Middle School, received first place and Riley Duncan of Nell Holcomb received honorable mention in fiction, grades 7 to 9.

* Mia Pohlman of Perryville High School, received honorable mention in essays, grades 10 to 12.

Scholarship

* HollyAnne Hoerning of Benton, Mo., received a President's Scholarship, a Missouri Leadership Award and a Missouri Assessment Program Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2010-2011 school year.
