Awards and achievements

* Brittany Hastings of Jackson, a senior at Missouri Baptist University majoring in musical theater, received the 2014 Musical Theatre Outstanding Student of Achievement Award. The award is a result of faculty vote.

* Julie Langenfeld of Cape Girardeau, a student at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, received an outstanding senior in French award from the American Association of Teachers of French. Recipients must have completed at least three years of French study at the time of graduation and be nonnative speakers of the language.

* The following Southeast Missouri State University students were recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest collegiate society for all academic disciplines: Ivie Ervin of Cape Girardeau and Megan Sides of Jackson. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

* Nicole Hermann of Jackson was named to the honors list at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, for the spring 2014 semester. The top 25 percent of all students who complete at least 12 credit hours qualify for the honors list.

* Mallory Siebert of Scott City was named to the president's list at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, for the spring 2014 semester. The president's list includes full-time students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

* The following students have been awarded scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2014-2015 academic year: Cameron Moore of Oak Ridge, Caleb Kester of Jackson and Jeffrey Goforth and Alexis Goins of Anna, Illinois. Katlyn Marie McCoy of Whitewater was awarded the Mary Maud and Norvell Hosea Memorial Scholarship. McCoy, daughter of Todd and Michelle McCoy, is a 2014 graduate of Delta High School. The scholarship was presented by the Whitewater Order of the Eastern Star No. 174. Hayley Toft of Jackson received the Regents' Scholarship. Toft, daughter of Steven and Julie Toft, is a 2014 graduate of Jackson High School.

* Amy Robinson of Jackson graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, with a bachelor of arts in elementary education.

* William Cooper of Sikeston, Missouri, graduated from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, with a bachelor of fine arts in arts management.

* Tara Price of Cape Girardeau graduated from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, with a bachelor of science degree in health promotion.

* Three local students graduated from the University of Kansas: Nina Scheibe of Cape Girardeau with a bachelor of music in bassoon, Nicole Fadler of Jackson with a master of science in nurse anesthesia and Kenneth Grothman II of Jackson with a master of architecture.

* Dr. Jeremy Loenneke recently graduated with a doctoral degree in exercise physiology from the University of Oklahoma. Loenneke is the son of Susan Loenneke and Ron and Debbie Lonneke of Jackson. Loenneke, who earlier earned a master's degree in nutrition and exercise science at Southeast Missouri State University, has 97 peer-reviewed published papers with 47 as first author. He has been accepted as tenure-track assistant professor at the University of Mississippi in its health, exercise science and recreation department.

Dean's list

* Jordan Reddin of Cape Girardeau was named to the dean's list at North Central Missouri College in Trenton for the spring 2014 semester. The dean's list includes students who have completed at least 12 credit hours with at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester.

* The following area students were named to the Southeast Missouri State University Dean's List for academic achievement during the spring 2014 semester. Students named to the list earned at least a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and completed at least 12 degree credit hours during the spring session.
