Honors, Achievements

* Amber Crites of Jackson received the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Scholar-Athlete award for the women's cross country team at the college's athletic awards banquet March 5. The award is presented to varsity athletes earning a GPA of 3.0 or above during their individual sport season.

* Karen Obermann of Chaffee, Mo., was presented the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-America Scholar-Athlete Award for women's cross country for the second year in a row at St. Louis College of Pharmacy's athletic awards banquet March 5. The award is presented to varsity athletes competing for NAIA institutions who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above as a third-, fourth- or fifth-year college student.

* Zachary McDowell, a senior at Jackson High School, has been selected as an Honorable Mention student in the 2011 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri's top academic students in the graduating class of 2011. Missouri Scholars 100 is a program sponsored by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals. The selection is based primarily on a formula using the student's GPA and ACT and SAT scores. Each student nominated had to first meet criteria of an Academic Decathlon which had 10 events designed to assure the academic strength of the student. Requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.75; minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1,900; students must be ranked in the upper 10 percent of the class and must have taken upper-level courses in math, science, English and a foreign language. Excellent attendance, exemplary school citizenship and involvement in the school activity program also are required.

Scholarships

The following students received scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2011-2012 school year:

* Arielle M. Bohnert of Altenburg, Mo., received the Regent's Scholarship for 2011-2012.

* Erica L. Scholl of Jackson received the Regent's Scholarship for 2011-2012.
