Honors, achievements
* Jackson High School graduate Kyle A. Perry received his Ph.D. in mining engineering from the University of Kentucky. Perry is an associate professor at the University of Kentucky.
* Adam Birk of Jackson has been selected the 2011-2012 Area 15 State FFA vice president. Birk is a member of the Jackson FFA Chapter. Birk previously served as the president, treasurer, and assistant treasurer in the Jackson FFA chapter and served as treasurer for the Area 15 FFA Association. Meanwhile, the Jackson FFA placed second in the Missouri Farm Bureau video contest at the 83rd Missouri FFA Convention April 14 and 15 in Columbia, Mo. Missouri Farm Bureau sponsors the video contest, where chapters show how they are making a difference in agriculture.

Tri-State Advertising & Marketing Professionals is now accepting applications for the 2011 scholarship program, which will award three $500 scholarships for the fall 2011 academic year. Students from the following schools are eligible to apply for the scholarships: Southeast Missouri State University, Mineral Area College, Three Rivers College, Murray State University and Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, mass communications, graphic design, radio/television production or a related field in an accredited program and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. The completed application, along with supplementary materials, must be received by July 1 to be considered.
