* Jordan Whitener and Molly J. Whitener of Jackson were selected as members of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
* Stephen Killen of Saxony Lutheran High School was named a Commended Student in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Scholarships
* The Alpha Xi Delta Scholarship for Outstanding Women in Honor of Patricia Lewis Hartzell was recently established at Southeast Missouri State University. Frank Hartzell of Washington, Mo., provided a $500 gift to the university foundation to establish the scholarship, which will be awarded for the first time in 2012 to an incoming freshman or a current student at Southeast Missouri State University.
