Awards/Achievements and Scholarships

The following students have been awarded scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2013-2014 academic year:

* Marie Ansberry of Cape Girardeau was awarded the Regents' Scholarship. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ansberry of Cape Girardeau, and will graduate from homeschooling.

* Gary Schweer of Jackson was awarded the Regents' Scholarship. He is the son of Lanny and Diane Schweer of Jackson, and will graduate from Jackson High School.

* Anthony Dunning of Jackson was awarded the Regents' Scholarship. He is the son of James and Joan Dunning of Jackson, and will graduate from Notre Dame Regional High School.

* Veronica Moore of Benton was awarded the President's Scholarship. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Moore of Benton, and will graduate from Notre Dame Regional High School.

* Collin Bentley of Scott City was awarded the University Scholarship. He is the son of Gary and Theresa Bentley of Scott City, and will graduate from Scott City High School.

* Reagan Brown of McClure, Ill., was awarded the Regents' Scholarship. She is the daughter of Steve and Renee Brown of McClure, and will graduate from Shawnee High School.

* Ashley Ballance of Wolf Lake, Ill., was awarded the Regents' Scholarship. She is the daughter of Tim and Karen Ballance of Wolf Lake, and will graduate from Shawnee High School.

Southeast announces acting scholarship

The Southeast Missouri State University Foundation has endowed the Marjorie H. Thompson Acting Scholarship. The talent-based, renewable scholarship will be awarded to theater and dance student with a 2.0 or higher grade-point average. Applications for the scholarship are available in the Department of Theatre and Dance. Interested students must schedule an appointment with the department for an audition or portfolio presentation. The scholarship was given in honor of Marjorie Helen Miller Thompson, of Cape Girardeau by her daughters, Julia Thompson of Cape Girardeau, Nancy L'Hommedieu of Tallahassee, Fla., Trisha Kell of Miami, Fla., and Lisa Thomas of Raleigh, N.C.; her granddaughters, Audrey Stanfield and Michelle Stanfield, both of New York, N.Y.; and the Theatre and Dance Guild at Southeast.

Cain earns master's degree

Carrie Cain, of Cape Girardeau, graduated with a masters of education degree from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo.

Allgier and Weaver earn Academic Achievement Awards

Central Methodist University, in Fayette, Mo., named Alyssa Allgier and Shelby Weaver, both of Fredericktown, Mo., Academic Achievement Award recipients for the Fall 2012 term. Both maintained grade-point-averages above 3.5, and carried a full semester load.

Lancaster named to dean's list

Codie Lancaster, of Bell City, Mo., was named to the dean's list of Williams Baptist College, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., for the fall 2012 semester. Lancaster maintained a grade-point-average above 3.5, and carried a full semester load.

Hazelwood wins modeling competition

Brittany Hazelwood, of Jackson, won the commercial print modeling competition at the January 2013 International Presentation of Performers Convention, iPop, in Los Angeles, Calif. Hazelwood competed against over 500 contestants. She is the daughter of Tim and Cris Cecil of Cape Girardeau and Tommy and Nikki Hazelwood of Jackson. She is a senior at Jackson High School.

Deadlines

Missouri State Fair offers summer internships

The Missouri State Fair, in Sedalia, Mo., is offering three internships for college students interested in gaining work experience in the fields of marketing, public relations, journalism and agricultural communication. Deadline to apply is March 1. Interns will be hired for temporary, full-time paid employment, for the Fair's marketing office. Limited benefits will also be offered. An additional internship is being offered by the Youth in Agriculture Committee for management of the annual Sale of Champions event. Missouri Youth Leadership Forum

The Missouri Youth Leadership Forum for students with disabilities ages 16 to 21, is accepting applications until April 1. Youth with leadership potential are requested to apply. The forum will be held at the University of Missouri in Columbia and will cover leadership principles, disability experience and resource sharing, assistive technology, development and achievement of career goals, independent living, and developing advocacy skills.
