Chicken-and-dumplings dinner raises funds
A chicken-and-dumplings dinner will help raise funds for the newly formed SEMO Earthquakes Soccer team. The menu also includes all-you-can-eat corn, green beans, slaw, bread, dessert and drink. The meal will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Missouri Extension Office, 684 W. Jackson Trail, Jackson. The price is reduced for children 4 to 10; children 3 and younger eat for free.
Guardian Angel Home and School dinner
The Guardian Angel Home and School will sponsor an all-you-can-eat chicken and dumplings, kettle beef and fried chicken dinner from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall in Oran, Mo. Carryouts will be available. Children 5 and younger eat free; reduced price for children 6 to 12.
River Tales classic car show, attractions open downtown
The 31st annual River Tales Classic Car Show, sponsored by River City Rodders and Old Town Cape will start with registration at 8 a.m. today. At noon vehicles will be judged and trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. The show expects more than 200 cars and trucks to be displayed along Main Street and in the downtown parking lot across from Hutson's Fine Furniture with local attractions, museums and restaurants being open.
Ducks float the Mississippi
The Southside and Esprit Optimist Clubs will host "Ducks on the Mississippi" at Riverfront Park. Proceeds from the duck races will benefit the fight against childhood cancer plus Southside children's programs. Races start at 1:30 p.m. with a sponsor's race and a children's race at 2 p.m.
