River City Players hold auditions
The River City Players will hold auditions for Lawrence Roman's romantic comedy, "Make Me a Match" at 3 p.m. at Port Cape restaurant. No preparation is required; the audition will be a cold reading.
Breakfast at Guardian Angel Church
Whole hog sausage, ham, pancakes, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy are on the menu from 8 to 11: 30 a.m. at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, Mo. The event will benefit Guardian Angel CYC. Children 5 and younger eat free.
Bluebird habitat is topic for Discover Nature Families
Learn the nature of bluebirds, how to attract them to your property and how to submit scientific research on the Internet from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Nature Center. Each family will build a bluebird nest box to take home. The program is for ages 7 and up. Register by calling 290-5218.
St. Paul has 23rd annual chili dinner
The St. Paul Lutheran School PTL is sponsoring its 23rd annual all-you-can-eat chili dinner from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran School cafeteria in Jackson. Menu includes chili, choice of hot dog or peanut butter sandwich, dessert and beverage. Tickets are available from any St. Paul student, through the school office or at the door. Co-sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Texas hold 'em tournament benefits Safe House
a Texas hold 'em tournament will be held to raise funds for the Safe House for Women, beginning at noon; poker at 1 p.m. at Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838. Preregister or register at the door. The Great Backyard bird count
All across North America every Presidents Day weekend, bird counts are conducted by citizen scientists and the data is later entered on the Internet. Counts can be conducted from the backyard, during a stroll through the woods or park or with groups at the Nature Center from 1 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. For more details, visit www.birdsource.org. Binoculars, field guides and identification assistance are provided at the Nature Center counts. For ages 7 and up. No registration is required.
Cape Civil War Roundtable meets
The Cape Civil War Roundtable will meet for a presentation by Dr. Frank Nickell, "Abraham Lincoln, Symbol for the Ages," at 2 p.m. at the Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. Club business and Fort D Days will also be discussed.
