Two new priests minister at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church

In August, two diocesan priests took up their new posts at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.

The Rev. David Hulshof

The Rev. David Hulshof, a native of Portageville, Mo., moved into the parish Aug. 10. Father David, as he is called, earned a degree in philosophy from the University of Dallas. He attended Holy Trinity Seminary, and earned his bachelor of sacred theology degree and master of arts in theology from the North American College, University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. He was ordained April 18, 1982, in his home parish, St. Eustachius, in Portageville.

During his academic studies in Rome from 1977 to 1982, he also worked in an Italian parish and with ministries in the city. During various summer experiences, he assisted the U.S. military chaplaincy in Germany, served the poor in India and worked with families for peace efforts in Northern Ireland.

He has been associate pastor at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson; taught at Notre Dame High School, was a chaplain for the Missouri State Council Knights of Columbus, associate pastor at Saint Agnes Cathedral in Springfield and pastor at Immaculate Conception church in New Madrid, Mo.

Father David has also served as director of Vocations and director of Regional Catholic Leadership for the diocese; chairman of the Diocesan Lay Endowment Board, associate spiritual director for the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, coordinator of Diocesan Planning, parish administrator in Bolivar, Mo., and Humansville, Mo., canonical pastor with Parish Life Coordinator at Aurora, Mo., and Verona, Mo., and served three years on the National Board of the Conference for Pastoral Planning and Council Development. He was also elected to a two-year term as president of the National Conference of Diocesan Vocational Directors.

Prior to coming to St. Vincent, he was parish administrator in the Missouri towns of Neosho, Seneca and Noel.

The Rev. Rehab Isidor

The Rev. Rehab Isidor is a native of Haiti, and his native languages are French and Creole.

He was a law student for three years at the State University of Haiti, but gave up the study of law for the priesthood.

He earned a bachelor of arts in philosophy and completed nearly three years of theology.

He has been in the United States for eight years -- in New Orleans to learn English at Loyola University for a year. He joined the Southern Dominican Province (The Order of Preachers) in 2000. He was sent to Miami to study more English at Barry University. After a year in Miami, the Dominican Superiors sent him to San Antonio to their Novitiate House for a year where he made a Simple Vow for three years.

Then, according to the Formation Program of the Dominicans, he went to St. Louis where he earned his master in divinity at Saint Louis University in May of 2005. He went back to San Antonio to the Oblate School of Theology there and graduated with a master of art in theology this year.

In 2004, he joined the diocese and was ordained as a deacon. He was later sent to Sacred Heart-Holy Trinity parishes in Verona, Mo., and Aurora Mo., until his ordination as a priest July 28 of this year. On Aug. 11, he came to be the associate pastor at St. Vincent de Paul Parish.
