When I first became interested in photography, books and magazines were my prime resources. Today, the World Wide Web has become another valuable source of photo instruction. With a few clicks of a mouse, one can learn new photographic techniques and find out what's happening in the world of photography.
Here is a look at just of a few of the Web sites that offer photo tips and fun for photographers:
www.photoworkshop.com. This interactive Web site uses photography, audio, moving images and 3-D diagrams. It features more than 80 rooms of educational content -- including a digital imaging room, artificial and natural light studios, an editing room, usable model releases, copyright information, printer data and Photoshop lessons. Interviews with top photographers, including Arnold Newman, Doug Kirkland and Joyce Tenneson are also posted. Double Exposure, the site's monthly online magazine, showcases the work of established and up-and-coming photographers.
www.Zugaphoto.TV. This site offers 24-7 on-demand programming designed for photographers who want to learn about different photo techniques, including portraiture and landscape photography. Zugaphoto.TV was founded by two of the photographers who have programs on the site: Monte Zucker and Gary Bernstein. More than a dozen photographers lend their expertise to this site.
www.takegreatpictures.com The mission of this site is to inspire photographers at all levels to take better pictures. Tips on many different aspects of photography are posted. You'll also find interviews with celebrities who enjoy photography, including William Shatner, Jeff Bridges and Kenny Rogers.
www.thescreamonline.com. The mission of TheScreamOnline is to present and showcase the work of talented photographers and artists (including poets, musicians, filmmakers and writers). Photographers profiled include former U.N. chief photographer John Isaac and legendary photographer William Mortensen.
This Web site, which features galleries containing hundreds of images, recently won a Golden Web Award from the International Association of Web Masters & Designers.
For the latest product information, check out the Web sites of the major camera, film and software manufactures. Go to www.google.com and type in the company's name in the Search window. That should take you to the company's site.
