What are some of the makeup trends for fall and winter?
From the runways in Paris to the silver screen in L.A., makeup for this upcoming season is a melting pot of color and creation. It is everything from a pop of bright aquatic blue eyeliner to a dark, sultry, smoky eye, even down to the barely there "no makeup" makeup look. It seems like this season, anything goes. My personal favorite of these is the "no makeup" makeup look. The appearance of dewy, healthy and nourished skin, in my opinion, never goes out of style. This is not to be confused with that over-Photoshopped appearance where a person's skin looks like it was painted on. This winter, you'll be good to go with just natural, healthy skin, and maybe a touch of blush, mascara or tinted lip gloss. Another trend we'll be seeing this season is a focus on a heavier eyeliner, which can be somewhat of a contrast to that "no makeup" look, but only slightly, as what we're seeing is the focus being on the liner, and everything else is minimal at best. We are seeing a lot of colored eyeliners (blues, reds, yellows, greens and even white), and not just our tried-and-true black liner. So if you're heading to a holiday party, consider skipping over your trusty black liquid liner and apply something bright and colorful, glittery or shiny to that line. Metallic shadows will also make a huge appearance this year. I expect to see finishes from coppery oranges to shiny silvers and bronzy browns this holiday season, especially where there's a need to get dressed up. 'Tis the season to wear metallic!
Now that winter is coming, is there anything that I should do differently with my skincare routine?
Now that Old Man Winter is upon us, we need to really focus on hydration and moisturizing that skin. Fall and winter can be very drying to our skin, as there is less moisture in the air. Also, when we come inside from the cold to the heat, it can pull out extra moisture in our skin, causing it to become drier. This is why it is absolutely essential that we remember to hydrate our skin. Anything we can do to keep our skin hydrated is beneficial (Aveeno Ultra-Calming Moisturizer and Hope in a Jar by Philosphy are my two personal faves for keeping skin nourished during the cold winter months). A tip for putting on moisturizer is to do it within three minutes of getting out of the shower or just before you step out. This will help ensure that any moisture in your skin will stay locked in with the lotion you apply. Also, consider wearing something with SPF during the winter as well. Even though you're not going to be baring a bikini in the middle of December (unless you live south of the Equator), there is still a chance you can sunburn during winter, so consider dabbing on at least a 15 SPF before hitting the snow hills. Last, but certainly not least, pay special attention to your lips. We tend to lose the most moisture in our lips, so even if you're wearing lipstick and gloss, make sure you prime your lips with a hydrating ChapStick or lip balm. Nothing is more unattractive than putting on your favorite tube of red lipstick, only to have it peeling off five minutes later because of cracked and dry lips.
