NEW YORK -- Ready for spring shopping? Almost -- but first let's master the lingo.
Since fashion's vocabulary changes with the seasons, Marshalls style expert Amy Gallagher created a "cheat sheet" of spring buzzwords:
* Wedge heel. A heel merged into the sole in one graduated shoe layer, flat on the ground from heel to toe. It's usually made of wood, rubber or cork. Softer than a pump and dressier than flip-flops or tennis shoes, wedge shoes provide a laid-back look, usually with a splash of color.
* Shrug: A shrunken sweater, usually worn as a layering piece. A shrug works on a cool night because it's got a breezy look but can still warm you up on a cool night.
* Tunic: A long top that hits anywhere from hip to knee; it's usually lightweight and flowing. Can be used for layering under a short cardigan or shrug or worn on its own.
* Bohemian chic: A look influenced by African, Indian and Asian culture with clothing and accessories usually in earthy tones accented with beading, embroidery or sequin embellishments. --Satin: A fabric made of silk, rayon or synthetic silk fibers, closely woven to give it a distinctive sheen.
* Chiffon: A lightweight sheer fabric. Ladylike looks on spring runways yielded flowing skirts in subtle colors and prints like light pinks and floral prints.
* Capri pants: Trousers, usually a slim cut, tapered to the mid-calf. They're named after the Italian island of Capri. Pink, turquoise, sea green and coral are expected to be popular colors for capris.
