Four local individuals recently were awarded Distinguished Service Awards from Southeast Missouri State University.
Charles Robert "Bob" Depro of Sikeston, Missouri, is a member of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation's Horizon Club. He recently made plans for his legacy by helping the next generation of teachers with a pair of $250,000 bequests to Southeast Missouri State University and the University of Mississippi that will be used to establish endowed scholarships in his name. The endowment will be known as the Charles R. Depro Scholarship for Social Studies Education.
James D. Maurer and his son Jeff formed Mayson Capital Partners in 2009 to manage their real estate holdings and to engage in private equity investments. Maurer currently serves on the Southeast Missouri University Foundation Board and has been active in the Missouri Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association, serving as president in 2011. Maurer was a charter member of the Notre Dame High School Foundation Board and was a board member for 20 years. He currently serves on the board of directors for The Bank of Missouri. Maurer has been active in redevelopment in the Old Town Cape area by serving on the Old Town Cape Board and chairing the Downtown Community Improvement District. He and Teresa Maurer also have supported the Discovery Playhouse Children's Museum through organization, construction and financial planning for the project.
U.S. District Court Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. and his wife, Marsha Limbaugh, Wells Fargo Advisors managing director-branch manager, are strong supporters of Southeast Missouri State University. They are founding members of the university's Copper Dome Society and sustaining members of the President's Council. Marsha also is a past member of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation Board of Directors. Judge Limbaugh is active in many professional, civic and charitable organizations and is president of the State Historical Society of Missouri. Additionally, he is a charter member of the Southeast Missouri Symphony Advisory Board. He is a lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. In addition to her service on the Southeast Missouri University Foundation Board of Directors, Marsha has been a member of the Southeast Hospital Foundation Board, a board member and vice chairman of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau, receiving the club's Woman of the Year recognition. Additionally, she served many years on the Military Academy Selection Committee for U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson, U.S. Rep. JoAnn Emerson and U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt. On a state level, she has served on the Missouri Lottery Commission, the Missouri Council on Women's Economic Development and Training, the Secretary of State's Securities Advisory Board and the Missouri Mansion Preservation Board. She also is a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
