The hummingbird activity continues, and if you look skyward, you might be able to spot our resident eagle and a couple of Mississippi kites! The kites are great bug eaters.
We have been asking for history of various homes in Chaffee. One of those homes is the former home of Dr. W.O. and Mardell Finney at 403 Elliott. My sisters and I spent a lot of time there as they were our uncle and aunt. One of the unique features was the laundry chute on the stairway. The opening was disguised as just another step on the long stairway, and there were many an occasion when my cousin Tyke, aka Norman, and I peered down the long chute wondering if we could possibly slip through and drop down to the laundry basket in the basement. The good Lord must have been looking after us, because we never attempted it, lest we would have gotten stuck mid-story.
Other features that fascinated us were Billy Ray Warner's dark room, which was obviously off limits to us, and the outdoor cellar door that led to the basement. The basement was added after the house was built and my sister Carolyn says she remembers the fun of climbing on the big piles of excavated dirt.
When you drive by the house down Elliott, if you look closely you will see a concrete driveway. I asked Tyke about it and he said it was in some way connected to the school across the street.

The city asks that you not block sidewalks when parking in driveways. There is an ordinance regarding such, so please pull up fully for the convenience and safety of many. Bob Burnett cleverly refers to parking on the sidewalk as "red-necking." Don't be a red-necker!
In Chat Out, a reader appreciates my bringing ordinances and needed ordinances to the attention of readers. She adds, however, what good are ordinances when they are not enforced by the city? She also notes the perpetrators probably don't read the newspaper. Maybe we can count on those who are aware of ordinances passing them along.
Remember to tell those special people in your life that you love them -- those three words mean so very much and are so nice to hear.

Then there was the designer logo that looks more like a Clydesdale.
