Fund-raiser concert at New McKendree

New McKendree United Methodist Church-South Campus will hold a fund-raiser concert at 6:30 p.m. Sunday for the Vision House in Cape Girardeau. The concert will feature solo artist Julie Walker and will feature songs from Walker's CD, "Summerhill Dreams." Admission is free, though donations for the Vision House will be accepted. Refreshments will be served and child care provided. New McKendree has held four similar concerts in the past four months, raising more than $10,000 total for local charities such as the Safe House for Women and Network Against Sexual Violence.

Local churches hold vacation Bible schools

  • Morley Baptist Church, July 31 through Aug. 4, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each night for children age three through sixth grade.

* Red Star Baptist Church will hold vacation Bible school from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through Friday. The VBS is for children age 4 through sixth grade. This year's theme is "Where Adventure Meets Courage." For more information, call 335-3381.

Oasis Club from Christian Faith Fellowship will meet at 8:30 a.m. today at the Landing Place restaurant. The event is for ages 55 and up.

Friday

Comedy duo APeX will perform at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson in a free concert Friday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event is part of an outdoor festival that will include booths selling refreshments, CDs and T-shirts. For more information, call 243-3182.

Sunday

Roger Bierschwal and Julie Walker will perform at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau July 30 at 7 p.m.
