Orthodox Christian Mission forms

An Orthodox Christian mission start-up meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Show Me Center. Evangelist Peter Gillquist from the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese's Department of Missions and Evangelism will address those interested in starting an Orthodox Christian mission parish in Cape Girardeau and with anyone wishing to learn about Orthodox Christianity. Area vacation Bible schools scheduled

  • Cape Bible Chapel invites all children ages 4 to 12 to discover Jesus' miraculous power at "Power Lab" vacation Bible school from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday. Cape Bible Chapel is at 2911 Kage Road in Cape Girardeau. For more information, call Jeremy at 334-5948.
  • Vacation Bible school will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Friday at Red Star Baptist Church.
  • "Good News Games" is the theme for vacation Bible school from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 28 through Aug. 1. at Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church, 2826 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau. Children ages 5 through 12 are welcome to ride in the van; there will be a class for children ages 3 and 4, but the church cannot provide transportation for them. Cape First Baptist schedules events

Sunday Bible study at First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau is at 9:30 a.m., and worship service is at 10:45 a.m. The sermon series for July is "Catch the Wave." Pastor Mike Shupert's message this week is titled "Waiting." Wednesday night Bible study (Luke 17) with Dr. Ron Winstead is at 6:15 p.m.

A new discussion group sponsored by First Baptist Church, Socrates' Cafe, will be held at Grace Cafe, 818 Broadway, on Wednesdaysat 7 p.m. beginning July 30 for young adults interested in stretching their faith.

Red Star to hold open mic service today

An open mic service will be held at 6 p.m. today at Red Star Baptist Church. Sunday's activities begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by worship at 10:40 a.m. and 6 p.m. Bible study will be at 2 p.m. Monday, and prayer meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Concert benefits quake victims

A night of music featuring the nationally touring Travis Lee Band and Christian/country artist Mike Rimmey will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at Grace Cafe, 818 Broadway. The concert is to raise money to benefit children affected by the recent earthquake in China.

Revival to be held at Perkins church

Perkins Baptist Church in Perkins, Mo., will be in revival at 7 p.m. nightly Monday through Wednesday. The Rev. Steve Hurte from North Augusta, S.C., will be the evangelist.

Missionaries to speak at church

Kenny and Genny Burns, General Baptist missionaries to the Philippines, will be guest speakers at the First General Baptist Church of Jackson at the 8:30 a.m. service in the church sanctuary and the 10:45 a.m. service in the activity center. The church is at 1506 S. Farmington Road in Jackson.

Church gets new music minister

Bill Poyner has joined First Baptst Church in Jackson as minister of music. His first day on the job will be Sunday. Poyner and his family have moved from Tennessee.
