Churches hold patriotic services

  • Hanover Lutheran Church -- patriotic service at 9 a.m. Sunday. This service will be during the Sunday School hour and will feature patriotic hymns and songs. The community is invited to attend.

* East Cape Baptist Church -- Stars and Stripes Forever musical by the church choir with big-screen synchronized video, today at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call (618) 776-5993.

* Calvary Temple -- Special patriotic Sunday honoring veterans service personnel, 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

* Jackson First Baptist Church -- Picnic at Jackson City Park bandshell pavilion following the Sunday morning service, which begins at 9:45 a.m.

* First Presbyterian Church -- Family barbecue at 4 p.m. Sunday with a variety of activities.

* Fruitland Community Church -- "Honor our heroes" service, 6 p.m. at the church, 6040 U.S. 61 in Fruitland. Reception following the service.

Women United will hold sale and luncheon July 14

The 37th annual Church Women United CROP sale and luncheon will be held July 14 beginning at 8 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church. The annual event raises money for a scholarship for a woman at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, Church World Service Projects and a scholarship to Young Life Camp. Every year women from churches in Jackson, Cape Girardeau and Perryville, Mo., come together to participate.
