New schedule at Abbey Road Christian church

Beginning Sunday, the schedule for Abbey Road Christian Church will be:

  • 8:30 a.m.: The Road
  • 9:25 to 9:40 a.m.: Fellowship
  • 9:40 a.m.: Adult Sunday school
  • 10:30 a.m.: Abbey Road Adventures for Children
  • 10:30 a.m.: Traditional worship

First Presbyterian switches to summer schedule

First Presbyterian Church at Broadway and Lorimier Street in Cape Girardeau will change to its summer schedule beginning Sunday. Sunday school will be at 9 a.m., coffee in the parlor at 9:30 a m. and worship service at 10 a.m.

The church building will be open from 7 to 8 p.m. each Friday to provide restroom facilities for Tunes at Twilight visitors on the Common Pleas Courthouse lawn.

Gospel music performances scheduled at Wappapello

WAPPAPELLO, Mo. — The band Southern Grace will play Friday at the Wappapello Outdoor Theater, followed by a concert June 7 featuring the Rivermen Quartet. Both performances begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but donations to the bands are appreciated. In case of bad weather, the shows will be in the music barn. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The theater is two miles south of the Wappapello Dam on Route T.

Bridges United Methodist Church will close June 30

CHARLESTON, Mo. — Bridges United Methodist Church in Charleston will close as of June 30. Bridges has been a part of the Bridges community since the early 1900s, and the existing building was built in 1957. The Bridges Community Reunion will be June 29, and that will also be the day of the final church service. A potluck dinner will begin at 12:30 p.m. Meat, all paper products and utensils will be provided. The last service will be at 2:30 p.m.

Events planned at First Baptist Church of Cape

n 7 p.m. today: Chinese Bible study, at the Baptist Student Center, 909 Normal Ave. For more information, call 335-6489.

n Sunday: 9:30 a.m., The Gathering: Contemporary praise and worship with a Bible study for young adults; 10:45 worship service, special speaker Dr. Bruce Gentry will deliver the sermon titled "The Limit of Forgiveness."

n 6:15 p.m. Wednesday: Adult Bible study with Dr. Ron Winstead, Luke 13:18-35, and Kids' Club with Whitney Thomason. New in June will be video-based Bible study "Simply Enough — Straight Talk on Simple, Just Living," with Tony Campolo, led by Tyler Tankersley, director of Young Adult Ministries.

n 6:30 p.m. Thursday: a new discussion group in the Youth Room. The topic is the book "To Own a Dragon." The group is for guys from junior high to college.

Trinity Lutheran graduation celebration postponed

The outdoor celebration honoring graduates from Trinity Lutheran Church at Egypt Mills scheduled for Sunday at Trail of Tears State Park will not be held because of the rising river and the closing of the roads there. There will be only regular worship service at the church at 7:45 and 10 a.m.
