Have you adjusted to last Sunday's return to standard time or are you falling asleep in your chair at 9 p.m.? This is National Sleep Comfort Month, but November is also known as Aviation History Month, Child Safety Protection Month, Native American Heritage Month and National No-Shave Month to draw awareness to men's health issues, especially prostate and testicular cancer.

Fly your flag Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day. City Hall and the public library will be closed along with state and federal institutions as we honor our veterans.

Where's Chatters?

I thank those of you who checked on me this past week when you did not see Chaffee Chatters in the paper last Sunday. All is well; we just had a little hiccup. Some time-sensitive items are repeated here, but you can access Chatters online at semissourian.com or via the Southeast Missourian's Facebook page.

Sisters and Snickers

Have you gotten rid of the Halloween candy yet? My sister Carolyn commented that her husband had overbought Halloween candy and she was trying to avoid the Butterfingers and Snickers. It reminded me of the days when my sister Jo and I were single, living and working in Dallas. As it usually goes with sisters, we sometimes had a spat. Hurt feelings were short-lived, especially when the instigator left a Snickers bar in a paper sack on the other's door step early the next morning. Living in a high-rise made it easy. We do not have spats now that we are grown, but we sure miss those Snickers!

The scam artists are at it again, and we remind you not to answer their calls, much less return them. Calls are being made, supposedly by the IRS, threatening lawsuits for nonpayment of taxes, and there also are callers impersonating various county sheriffs regarding arrest warrants. One person checked out the latter, and their local sheriff's office assured them they don't give advance warnings when it comes to arrest warrants.

Special words

Remember to tell those special people in your life that you love them -- those three words mean so very much.

Our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Joe Bob Cobb.

We were further saddened and shocked by the passing of former resident Bill Hagan. Many of us had the pleasure of visiting with him and Mary Ann at the CHS Alumni Banquet. They were an amazing couple, and we each have special memories of the Hagans and of eating at Big B Family Restaurant, which they owned and operated for 23 years.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are missing loved ones, our homebound, those in hospitals and nursing homes and those undergoing cancer treatments. Email your news and comments to darbuck2@airmail.net or leave a message at (573) 887-6430 or (214) 207-7839.

And then ...

Then there was the dentist who continues his tradition of buying Halloween candy from young patients.
