The Judge Timothy J. and Carole A. Patterson Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. The Honorable Timothy J. Patterson of Hillsboro, Missouri, made a $10,000 gift to establish the scholarship. The gift was matched with an additional $10,000 through a matching gift program, part of the Honoring Tradition -- Inspiring Success Comprehensive Campaign through the foundation. The renewables scholarship will be awarded to a Southeast student. Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average. First preference will be given to an incoming freshman who is a graduate of St. Pius X High School in Festus, Missouri, with a major in the history department. Patterson is a 1963 graduate of Southeast, and taught at Hillsboro, Missouri, High School in Hillsboro, Missouri. After serving in the U.S. Air Force and completed his juris doctorate at the University of Missouri in Kansas City in 1972, when he began his legal career. In 1983 he was elected circuit judge for the 23rd Judicial Circuit in 1983, serving for 24 years on the bench. The late Carole Patterson taught 26 years in the Hillsboro School District.
