The flowers shown here are two forms of native hibiscus. These plants can grow to more than 7 feet tall, but usually are about 5 feet tall.
There are several forms of this common plant. The flower petals can be radiant white to varying shades of pink.
Often the flower will have a deep purple eye, but sometimes this eye is absent.
Common names for this beautiful and hardy plant include swamp mallow, rose mallow, marsh mallow and crimson-eyed mallow. Native hibiscuses are found in wetlands and low-lying areas along streams, ditches and lakes.
