Orchard grass is a kind of grass that originated in Eurasia and North Africa.
This grass has been spread throughout most of the world's temperate zones, mostly because of its good digestibility for cattle.
Orchard grass is often sewn in cow pastures for grazing. It also makes good hay, especially when blended with other hay crops such as red top clover.
Orchard grass has become naturalized in many places such as stream banks, roadsides and fence rows in Southeast Missouri, although it generally is not considered invasive.
I am showing this image of orchard grass in bloom because grasses often go unnoticed as flowering plants. Most grasses have very small flowers that are not visually exciting or colorful.
