The Lutheran Home Auxiliary helps the Lutheran Home by doing special projects or programs for the facility and the residents. Recently, the auxiliary embarked on the mission to put a cross in every room at the home. Instead of simply buying the 370 crosses it would take to fill the home, the auxiliary enlisted the help and skill of August Birk to carve wooden crosses to be placed in the rooms. Birk started the project in October and has completed 55 crosses so far. Having the crosses in the rooms "provides a reminder of what we stand for here and the values we uphold in caring for our residents," said health care systems manager Susan Essner. "That makes it even more special that they're handmade."
