Carole Jo Byrd has been volunteering for her church and the Oak Ridge Homemakers Club as a pianoist for 54 years. She started volunteer work in Jackson Manor several years ago playing piano for church services and birthday parties and helping with bingo. Three years ago while her father was a resident there she began making banana bread and distributing it to residents and staff of the Manor each Thursday. Byrd said she does this because she loves people and wants to help in some way. Now she spoils them as they look forward to "The Banana Bread Lady." The recipe she uses for the bread belonged to her family. Byrd can be found at Jackson Manor two to three days each week spending about three hours each day helping and visiting residents.
