What makes this business different? Besides its enduring commitment to Heartland residents, the bank offers several services that are tailored to businesses, such as its Small Business Suite. They know that small business owners cannot afford to pay excessive fees or carry large balances to avoid charges. In response, the bank has developed a bundle of products that helps small business streamline their operations. These products help keep small business owners in control of their money and enhance their bottom line.
This is a financial institution that has experienced, and will continue to experience, rapid growth. The bank plans to invest where necessary in the future to continue that trend, while providing the very best in customer service. As stated in the institution's mission statement, with Capaha Bank you really can expect "A better brand of banking."
The institution recently celebrated its 50-year anniversary, an example of its enduring commitment to the community. The success story of Capaha Bank, stretching back more than half a century, is an excellent example of how people in the Heartland can work together to achieve their goals.
In November 1955 a small bank in Tamms, Ill., was just getting a start in the community. By 1973 the small bank had achieved over $4 million in assets. Keep in mind that back in 1973, $4 million was considered a lot of money. That same year current owner and majority stockholder John R. Abercombie took over as president with a clear vision for the future. The bank expanded in Southern Illinois and soon had three branches: Tamms, Cairo and Anna. In 1997 the bank opened the William Street location and a small storefront location in Jackson while renaming the institution "Capaha Bank" to reflect the heritage of the area on both sides of the river.
The bank expanded in 2006 by opening the Kingshighway facility and relocated the Jackson branch to a new, larger building at the intersection of Main Street and Farmington Road. The pleasant atmosphere of the new Kingshighway facility has received praise from residents and community leaders for contributing to the attractiveness of the city of Cape Girardeau. Today, Capaha Bank has $160 million in assets and is steadily growing. The institutions' continued leadership, along with a talented team of banking professionals, ensures that its customers and the community will receive the same level of service and commitment tomorrow that they have for the past 52 years.
