Joshua Lix has been selected as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Journeyman of the Year for 2013.

Lix, with the Fort Leonard Wood Construction Division, is project and office engineer on multiple construction contracts. In addition, he participates in college recruiting, mentors recent college graduates and volunteers with nearby schools and youth organizations to promote the STEM initiative -- science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

With the STEM initiative, dubbed "Tomorrow's Engineers," Lix has conducted science and mathematics experiments at community fairs and partnered with the Pulaski County 4-H Club in conducting engineering and science activities at the Missouri State Fair. He has introduced hundreds of students to the science of Missouri aquatic ecosystems at the Bray County Conservation site.

An Eagle Scout, Lix is a Boy Scouts of America volunteer leader and an OA Vigil Honor recipient. He was an engineering instructor for scout classes at Southeast Missouri State University.

Lix, the son of Saundra and Eric Flanagan of Millersville and Chris Lix of Cape Girardeau, is a 2005 graduate of Woodland High School and 2009 graduate of the Missouri Institute of Science and Technology.
