Derek Parker graduated with a Master of Science degree in human computer interaction design from the School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, on May 6. He previously graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School and Missouri State University and is the son of Michael and Tiffany Parker of Cape Girardeau.
The Cultural Exchange Network, a not-for-profit based in Cape Girardeau, awarded four scholarships to local students to assist in paying for summer language study. The scholarships were awarded in cooperation with Concordia Language Villages in Bemidji, Minnesota. All the students will study at CLV's camps in Minnesota. The students include Maggie Shelton, 17, of Jackson, who will study Arabic for four weeks; Jake Shelton, 12, of Jackson, who will study Portuguese for two weeks; Chance Earls, 11, of Carbondale, Illinois, who will study Portuguese for two weeks; and Mariena Collins, 11, of Jackson, who will study Chinese for one week.
