More than 140 student-athletes at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri, were honored for their achievements throughout the 2015-16 school year. Local students who received accolades include the following:
Alayah Cooper-Johnson of Cape Girardeau earned the Poage Award. This award is given to a male and female junior athlete who exhibit good attitude, good GPA, leadership and who are good teammates. Cooper-Johnson also was recognized for earning all conference accolades in basketball.
Julia Weber of Jackson was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete in volleyball and track and field. To be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status. Weber also was recognized for earning all conference accolades and for her leadership as a volleyball team captain.
