Richa Sutaria, a past graduate of Jackson High School, graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree and Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from the six-year combined BA/MD program at the University of Missouri at Kansas City's commencement ceremony, held May 23. Sutaria is the daughter of Dr. Kirit and Rita Sutaria. She will pursue a career in anesthesiology and will attend the University of Florida's residency program in Gainesville, Florida, from July 2016 to May 2020.
Emily Weber, a senior at Saxony Lutheran High School, is among 112 students selected to participate in the University of Missouri School of Medicine's High School Mini Medical School at the end of June. The program, now in its 18th year, is designed to give high school seniors a one-week preview of medical school.
Jacob Jeffers of Jackson was named to the chancellor's list at Troy University in Troy, Alabama, for the spring 2016 semester. Margaret Pitt of Jackson was named to the president's list for the spring 2016 semester at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri.
Several area students were awarded scholarships to assist with the cost of attendance at Southeast Missouri State University in the fall.
Lauren Pritchard of Scott City, Hannah Petzoldt of Jackson, Zachary Rabey of Morley, Missouri, and Emily Phillips of Oran, Missouri, were awarded the Regents Scholarship. Pritchard, a 2016 graduate of Scott City High School, is the daughter of Rebekah Irvin of Scott City. Rabey is a 2016 graduate of Scott County Central High School. Petzoldt, a 2016 graduate of Eagle Ridge Christian School, is the daughter of Gary and Christine Petzoldt of Jackson. Phillips, a 2016 graduate of Oran High School, is the daughter of Todd and Debra Phillips of Oran.
Carson Ketcher of Cape Girardeau was awarded the President's Scholarship and Residence Life Leadership Award. Ketcher, a 2016 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, is the son of Mark Ketcher and the late Danette Ketcher of Cape Girardeau.
Ciera Hessling of Cape Girardeau was awarded the Community College Scholarship. Hessling, a 2015 graduate of St. Charles Community College and a 2013 graduate of Winfield High School, is the daughter of Jeffrey Hessling of Moscow Mills, Missouri, and Rebecca Hessling of Winfield, Missouri.
William Shivelbine of Cape Girardeau was awarded the University Scholarship. Shivelbine, a 2016 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School, is the son of Bill and Christie Shivelbine of Cape Girardeau.
