Scholarships
* Alex Hunt, a senior at the Perryville Area Career and Technology Center, received the Edgar Balsman Memorial Scholarship. Hunt plans attend WyoTech in Laramie, Wyo. The scholarship is provided by the Hi Way Rodders Car Club Inc. for career center students in automotive programs.
* Joey Withrow, a senior at the Perryville Area Career and Technology Center, received the Virgil Lang Memorial Scholarship. Withrow plans to enroll at Nashville Auto Diesel College in Nashville, Tenn. The scholarship is provided by the Hi Way Rodders Car Club Inc. for career center students in automotive programs.
* The Kiwanis Club of Cape Girardeau awarded scholarships to the following students for their chosen university: Jillian Bess of Cape Girardeau Central High School will attend Arkansas State University; Shawna Valleroy, Brooke Vanderpool and Jacklyn Ruopp of Notre Dame Regional High School, Zachary Kyle and Machaela Durham, both of Central, and Katie Winter of Saxony Lutheran High School will attend Southeast Missouri State University; Ethan Huber of Notre Dame will attend the University of Kansas; Anna Ayers of Chaffee High School will attend Three Rivers Community College; Lauren Bishop of Central will attend Missouri State University; Brittany Hastings of Jackson High School will attend Missouri Baptist University; Rachel Buchheit of Notre Dame will attend Truman State University and Hannah Seesing of Central will attend the University of Missouri in Columbia.
* The following students received scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2010-2011 school year:
Hannah Fisher of Jackson and Lacy Boeller of Cape Girardeau each received a Missouri Leadership Award.
Adeline Yates of Cape Girardeau received a President's Scholarship and a Missouri Assessment Program Scholarship.
Cole Mann of Cape Girardeau and Joshua McTurnan of Advance, Mo., received General Education Degree Scholarships.
Hannah Newell of McClure, Ill., received a University Scholarship.
Andrew Minson of Burfordville received a Boy's State Leadership Award.
Honors, achievements
* Mitchel Hazelwood of New Wells and Christian Carron of Perryville, Mo., will attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. Hazelwood is a student at Jackson High School, and Carron attends St. Vincent High School in Perryville. The students will receive full tuition and upon graduation will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.
* Notre Dame Regional High School was recognized Monday for its participation in the Missouri Department of Transportation's Battle of the Belt. The school was one of 200 statewide to participate and reached a 94.2 percent seat-belt usage rate.
