Student to intern with Southeast Missourian
Michelle Felter, a senior at the University of Missouri in Columbia, will begin an internship at the Southeast Missourian on Thursday to experience how a non-metropolitan newspaper operates. A graduate of Thomas Kelly High School in Benton, Mo., Felter is majoring in news-editorial journalism with a minor in political science. Felter and other students from the University of Missouri School of Journalism are visiting community newspapers across the nation as part of a community journalism class. At Mizzou, Felter works as a teaching assistant in the production area of the Columbia Missourian, a daily morning newspaper in Columbia, and is the editor of MiniMo, the Columbia Missourian's weekly Newspapers in Education supplement. She is also a journalism ambassador for the school, and has spent the past three summers interning at the Standard Democrat in Sikeston, Mo. Felter plans to graduate with honors in May.
Tanksley to represent SLU at legal competition
Nicolette Tanksley, a native of Cape Girardeau County, was chosen to represent St. Louis University School of Law as a member of the Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court team. The legal competition was held by the American Intellectual Property law Association and involves cutting-edge issues in patent and copyright law. Tanksley is scheduled to graduate in May with a juris doctorate from St. Louis University.
Students selected for agribusiness academy
Michael Bachmann of Perryville, Mo., and Sarah Pfeiffer and Todd Aufdenberg, both of Jackson, are among 30 high school sophomores statewide selected to participate in the 20th class of the Missouri Agribusiness Academy. Bachmann attends the Perryville Area Career and Technology Center. Pfeiffer and Aufdenberg are students at Jackson High School. The Missouri Department of Agriculture annually sponsors the academy to acquaint students with career opportunities in agriculture. The students are selected through a competitive written application and oral interview process.
Scholarships
n Taylor Myer of Jackson and Valerie Gibbons of Scott City received scholarships from the Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences Board of Trustees. Myer, the daughter of Keith and Faye Myer, is pursuing an associate's degree in nursing. Gibbons also has been awarded a President's Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University. She is the daughter of Lawrence and Sandra Gibbons, is pursuing an associate's degree in radiologic technology.
