Eagle Ridge student wins poster contest

Kolton Estes of Eagle Ridge Christian School in Cape Girardeau placed second in the Missouri Department of Transportation's Work Zone Safety Poster and Coloring Contest in the age 4 to 5 coloring competition category.

Holloway a semifinalist in state geographic bee

James Holloway, a seventh grader at Trinity Lutheran School in Cape Girardeau, has been named a semifinalist for the 2007 Missouri Geographic Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society. The state contest will be March 30 at Columbia College in Columbia, Mo. The winner will represent Missouri in the national finals May 22 to 23 in Washington, D.C.

LeGrand inducted into honors program

Brianna LeGrand of Cape Girardeau was inducted into the honors program at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo.

Several students awarded SkillsUSA medals

Forty-five students from the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center received medals Feb. 24 at the SkillsUSA District Leadership and Skills Conference at Arcadia Valley Career Center. Scholarships

• Kayla Otte of Cape Girardeau and Kaitlin Vetter of Benton, Mo., have been awarded President's and Missouri Assessment Program scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University. A senior at Cape Girardeau Central High School, Otte is the daughter of Gary and Cheryl Otte. A senior at Kelly High School, Vetter is the daughter of Chris and Cheri Vetter.
• Kelsey Powell of Jackson has been awarded a President's Scholarship and a Missouri Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University. A senior at Jackson High School, she is the daughter of Mike Powell of Jackson and Tammy and Chris Schabbing of Jackson.

Honors list

• Steve Miinch, formerly of Cape Girardeau, has been named to the 2006 fall semester dean's list at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

School News

n Nineteen Southeast Missouri School Districts will be recognized for outstanding achievement on their Missouri School Improvement Program annual performance reports at a banquet March 27 at the Show Me Center. The list includes Advance, Altenburg, Bell City, Delta, Jackson, Kelso C-7, Leopold, Nell Holcomb, Oran and Zalma.

• The Scott County Women in Agriculture organization is offering a $500 scholarship to a 2007 high school graduate. To qualify, applicants or their families must be involved in farming or agribusiness in Scott County. The application deadline is April 1. For more information, call 545-3593.
