Former Jackson resident Joseph D. Deimund recently received the Army Commendation Medal. This medal is awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service. Deimund is a unit administrator with six years of military service. Deimund is assigned to the U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Deimund was also the recipient of the Association of the U.S. Army's Soldier of the Year Award. He is the son of Sonny P. and Joyce F. Deimund of Cape Girardeau and is a 1997 graduate of Jackson High School.
