KEY WEST, Fla. -- Key West's annual Hemingway Days celebration is scheduled for July 17-22.
The festival's main literary event is the announcement of the winners of the Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition, scheduled for 8 p.m. on July 20. Details at www.shortstorycompetition.com.
Lorian Hemingway, author of "Walk on Water," is Ernest Hemingway's granddaughter and head of the panel that decides the winner of the contest, which receives 750 to 1,000 entries each year. She is also working on a book called "Key West: The Pirate Heart."
The awards presentations and readings are held at Casa Antigua, Ernest Hemingway's first Key West address. He lived on the island for a decade.
Lorian Hemingway is scheduled to be one of several writers presenting their work at "Voices, Places, Inspirations," July 18, 8-10 p.m., free, at Wyland's 623 Duval St. gallery.
