Counseling center wins accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (known as CARF) has awarded the Community Counseling Center a three-year accreditation. This is the second consecutive three-year accreditation outcome that the international accrediting commission has awarded to Community Counseling Center. It represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization. Community Counseling Center is a not-for-profit organization with offices in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Madison, Perry and Ste. Genevieve counties since 1974.

Community outreach clinics

The Scott County Health Department will hold community outreach clinics:

* June 7 at the Oran Jaycee building

* June 14 at the First Assembly of God in Scott City

* June 21 at the Elks Lodge in Chaffee

* June 28 at the Riverside Regional Library in Benton.

Clinic hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Services available are immunization, blood pressure screenings, family planning and TB testing. For more information, call (800) 471-4044.

Walk and Be Fit

Beginning today and on the first and third Thursday of each month at 8 a.m. will be Walk and Be Fit, a 30-minute educational program for adult walkers in Southeast Missouri Hospital's Kids Be Fit/Walk And Be Fit room a West Park Mall.

The kickoff program will be on "The Wonders and Benefits of Walking" and will be presented by Wellness Services manager Debbie Leoni.

The Walk and Be Fit program is free to the community. For more information, call Leoni at 986-4406.

We Can Weekend

A weekend retreat for cancer patients will be held at the Sunnen Center at the YMCA of the Ozarks near Potosi, Mo.

We Can Weekend is an experience developed to met some of the special concerns of families learning to cope with cancer. The fee to participate includes lodging and meals from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. The fee is refundable at the end of the weekend through the support of the Regional Cancer Center at Southeast Missouri Hospital and the American Cancer Society.

The weekend will include planned activities for the special needs of patients, spouses and children, and will also include time to fish swim, boat, hike, play tennis or try archery or a ropes course.
