Physician appointed to medical board

The American College of Medical Practice Executives named Dr. Sarah J. Holt, administrator of Cape Girardeau Surgical Clinic Inc., as ACMPE board chairwoman for 2007. Holt was appointed during the Medical Group Management Association's 2006 annual conference in Las Vegas. As the ACMPE board chairwoman, Holt will serve as a nonvoting member and ex officio on the MGMA board for 2007. The American College of Medical Practice Executives, established in 1956, supports and promotes the personal and professional growth of health-care leaders to advance the profession of medical practice management.

Cape doctor named to College of Surgeons

Dr. Joseph S. McCadams, a surgeon at Cape Girardeau Surgical Clinic, was initiated into the Fellows of the American College of Surgeons at the college's 92nd annual clinical congress in Chicago. By meeting the college's stringent membership requirements, surgeons of the college earn the right to use the designation of FACS (Fellow, American College of Surgeons) after their name. An applicant for the fellowship must be a graduate of an approved medical school, must have completed advanced training in one of 14 surgical specialties recognized by the college, possess certification by an American surgical specialty board and must have been practicing in the same location for at least one year at the time of his or her application. The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the care of patients. The college has more than 70,000 members and is the largest organization of surgeons in the world.
