Dr. Frank Nickell, professor of history at Southeast Missouri State University, received the Distinguished Service award from the State Historical Society of Missouri. Nickell was given the award in recognition of his service and support of the Historical Society at their annual meeting in Columbia. Nickell has taught at Southeast for four decades, served as the director of the Center for Regional History since 1990, written and edited many books on local history, was named an outstanding Missourian by the Missouri House of Representatives in 2005 and received numerous honors and achievements. Nickell will be retiring at the end of the 2012-2013 academic year.
