Layton selected for state academic honor

Jordan Layton, senior at Oak Ridge High School, was selected an "Honorable Mention" student in the 2018 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program honoring 100 of Missouri's top academic students in the 2018 graduating class, according to a news release.

The program is sponsored by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals, or MoASSP. Schools across Missouri were invited to nominate candidates. Selection was based primarily on a formula using the student's grade-point average and SAT or ACT score.

Jackson High School graduate honored

Nicole Sotak, a Jackson High School graduate, has earned the fall 2017 Dean's Award for Academic Excellence from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.

Students who receive a term grade point average of 3.3 or higher while completing at least three courses earn the award.

Students shine at DECA conference

Cape Central students recently competed in DECA State Career Development Conference, according to a district news release, and three 11th-grade students earned honors.

Clayton Deimund practiced all year for the Financial Consulting Event and earned 3rd place.

Matt Kinder received 7th place for his Start-Up Business Plan.

Emma Spiller worked as District Vice-President (Part of the State Officer Action Team), which required her to create programs of activities all year to encourage student participation in the organization all year long.

Clayton Deimund and Emma Spiller have qualified to attend the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, in April, the release stated.
