Pillars and cathedral ceiling give this home architectural interest
Abundant space distinguishes this brick home on a hillside off Old Hopper Road in Cape Girardeau.
A brick retaining wall with a white fence lines the left side of the drive. Dogwood trees are on either side of the drive with lanterns atop brick pillars.
A two-car, side-entry, finished garage has a door to the house in front and door to the left to the outside.
Entering the house from the garage, to the left are two pantries, to the right, a spacious laundry room with custom cabinetry and a stainless steel sink.
A brick-lined sidewalk winds around the house in front of clusters of orange mums, two Japanese maples, boxwoods, evergreens andholly.
The front door is framed by leaded glass, and the foyer is illuminated by a skylight. Twelve-inch green and white ceramic tile grace the foyer floor.
White pillars stand on each side of the entry to the great room. Brazilian cherry hardwood floors glisten beneath a vaulted ceiling. Above the pillars is a stained glass window with a dogwood design. The great room features triple crown molding and rope lighting.
French doors open to a screened-in porch with a cathedral ceiling. The porch creates a covered patio below.
A right turn from the foyer leads to the front bedroom. An arched picture window faces the front of the house.
Each of the five bedrooms has an immense walk-in closet with custom-built cabinetry and shelving.
Between the front bedrooms is a full bath with two ceramic sinks and a combination shower and tub.
To the left of the foyer is the formal dining area, with light plush carpeting and an arched picture window. The formal dining room opens to the large kitchen and breakfast area.
Besides plantation blinds in the breakfast area, the windows in this and several other rooms feature plantation shutters and custom curtains.
Abundant cherry cabinetry extends on both sides of the kitchen above light-colored counters. An island in the middle provides additional counter space. Built-in appliances include dishwasher, microwave, stove and side-by-side refrigerator. Green 12-inch tile covers the kitchen floor.
Behind the attached breakfast area is the master suite, with a vaulted ceiling. The master bath contains a triangular whirlpool tub and a separate shower.
In the master bath, there are two sinks on perpendicular walls. An alcove contains glass shelving. The floor is covered with 6-inch white ceramic tile accented with small red diamonds.
Down the plush-carpeted stairs to the left is an office. Down the hall are two storage areas. One is a work area with 9-feet wide double doors. The other storage area has built-in custom shelving.
The walls of the family room are covered with Pecky Cyprus and the floor is covered with Berber carpeting. In the corner is a wood-burning stove. Five windows allow light in and a view of outside.
At the end of the hall are two bedrooms, each with double walk-in closets. Between the office and the family room is a complete kitchen. A full bath is located between the family room and the two bedrooms.
Ceilings throughout this house, including the basement, are a minimum of nine feet high.
